VOLUNTEER TRAINING PROGRAM:

Volunteers first participate in a professionally led orientation program. They meet once a week for 8 weeks to learn about a variety of important elements related to excellence in hospice care including:

• Hospice History and Philosophy
• Family Dynamics
• Medical Overview
• Listening Skills
• PDA Personal Death Awareness
• Cultural Competency
• Grief & Loss
• Hospice Volunteer Policies
• Review/Graduation

Although the training takes place in the hospice office in Jersey City, volunteering is done throughout Hudson County. Volunteer hours are flexible, according the needs of the patient/family and the availability of the volunteer.
